TruthLens is a Chrome extension that helps users identify AI-generated content, deepfakes, and potential misinformation on web pages. This policy describes exactly what data is processed when you use TruthLens, and how it is handled.
We have designed TruthLens with a minimal-data philosophy: we only transmit what is strictly necessary to perform analysis, we do not log request content on our servers, and all user preferences are stored locally on your device.
When you click "Analyse Page": the extension extracts the current page's URL, title, and article body text (with ads and navigation stripped), captures a screenshot of the visible page area, and sends this to our secure proxy server at api.usetruthlens.com, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude AI for credibility analysis.
When you click "Analyse Images": images visible on the page are converted to base64 data in your browser and sent to our proxy, which forwards them to Hive AI for AI-generation and deepfake detection.
Domain reputation check: on every page load, the domain name only (not the full URL or page content) is sent to Claude for a quick source credibility check.
Auto-analysis: if you have enabled auto-analysis for a specific domain, the full page analysis described above runs automatically when you visit that domain. You can disable this at any time from the extension popup.
The following data may be transmitted to our proxy server and on to third-party AI services, depending on which features you use:
On your device (chrome.storage.local): TruthLens stores your auto-analysis domain preferences and any domains you have manually excluded from analysis. This data never leaves your device except as part of the analysis requests described in Section 3.
On our proxy server (api.usetruthlens.com): your IP address is used for rate-limiting only. It is held in a temporary cache that expires automatically within 2 hours. We do not log request content, URLs, page text, screenshots, or analysis results on our servers. No persistent database of user activity exists.
At Anthropic: content sent to Claude is processed under Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train its models by default.
At Hive AI: images submitted for deepfake and AI-generation detection are processed under Hive's privacy policy. Hive does not retain submitted content beyond the time required to complete each request.
TruthLens maintains a hardcoded exclusion list that automatically prevents any analysis from being triggered on the following categories of sites:
/login, /account, /checkout, /payment, or /bankingIn addition to this hardcoded list, you may manually exclude any domain from analysis at any time using the "Never analyse this domain" option in the extension popup.
TruthLens is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect or process personal data from children. If you believe that a child has submitted data through the extension, please contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps to address it.
Because TruthLens does not persistently store personally identifiable information — beyond ephemeral IP-based rate limiting that auto-expires within 2 hours — there is generally no personal data held on our servers to access, correct, or delete.
All user preferences are stored locally on your device and can be cleared at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome's extension storage via chrome://settings/siteData.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California and have questions about your data rights, please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within a reasonable time.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect when the policy was last revised.
Continued use of TruthLens after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
